Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This legislation limits the nominating petition required by candidates to statewide, congressional, general assembly, or partisan elections and increases the signatures required to two percent of the votes cast in the last election of the office for which the candidate is seeking. If a candidate qualified for office by petition or another provision, in the last election, and received at least five percent of the vote the number of signatures required will be reduced by half. If the candidate received at least ten percent of the vote, the nominating petition requirement shall be waived.
